How we research businesses
If you found SnagACallResearch/1.0 (+https://snagacall.com/research) in your website logs, that was us. This page explains who we are, what our crawler reads and how to opt out.
Who we are
SnagACall is an AI receptionist for home service businesses: it answers the calls a business misses, as that business, and emails the owner a summary. It is a small, founder-run company operated by EarlyCo, Inc.
What we do with public websites
We mail postcards to local service businesses, such as plumbers, HVAC companies and electricians. Each card is made for one business: it uses the business name, and its code opens a demo that answers the phone the way it would for that business. To make the card and the demo fit, we read the business's public website.
What the crawler does
- It identifies itself as
SnagACallResearch/1.0with a link to this page. - It reads robots.txt first and follows it, including any crawl delay. If robots.txt blocks it, it reads nothing else on your site.
- It reads your homepage and up to three more pages, such as contact, about, services or service area.
- It makes one request at a time to your site, with a pause between them. It only reads public pages and doesn't fill in forms or log in.
From those pages we note the services, service area, hours and languages you list, the owner's first name if the site gives it, and whether the site mentions things like 24/7 answering or an answering service. We skip businesses whose sites say their calls are already answered around the clock. We don't sell this information. Our privacy notice has the details.
How to block the crawler
Add this to your robots.txt:

Disallow: /How to opt out
Email hello@snagacall.com with your business name and your website or phone number. We will add your business to our do-not-contact list, so we don't research it or mail it again, and delete the details we collected about it. We keep only the short do-not-contact entry, so the opt-out sticks.
